Job Title: Facilities Maintenance Worker

Responsible for performing daily housekeeping and sanitation activities. Incumbent must supervise trustees and inmates on work details and conduct outdoor sanitation and litter collection activities. Duties also include reporting found or potential safety, maintenance, or non-compliance issues. This position reports to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

Essential job functions include:

  • Ensuring that their work area is clean, organized, safe and presentable in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Performing effective housekeeping and sanitation activities to ensure that the facility areas are clean, organized, and presentable.
  • Supervising and directing the trustees in the proper performance of their daily tasks while maintaining the security, safety, and control of the inmate/offender pursuant to applicable FMJS regulations and in accordance with agency policies.
  • Supervising contractors while they are working in the building.
  • Maintaining an accurate count of all inmates/offenders assigned to the work detail at all times and will complete and disseminate the required documentation concerning inmate/offender assignments in a timely manner in accordance with agency policies/procedures.
  • Determining type and quantity of supplies/equipment required, and accurately completes and submits the requisition request to the appropriate personnel for authorization and processing.
  • Ensuring that restrooms are clean, sanitized, and in good working order.
  • Vacuuming carpet in building.
  • Ensuring that municipal grounds are free of litter and debris.
  • Emptying all trash bins, compiling the trash in a central location and readying the trash for pickup.
  • Wet mopping all non-carpeted areas of the facility, removing excess water/fluids and ensuring that caution signs are properly posted to warn personnel of the slippery conditions.
  • Supervising the washing of windows, ensuring that the windows are free of dirt, film, and other material buildup, and present a clear view to the exterior of the facility.
  • Ensuring that all non-carpeted areas of the facility are properly waxed as required or as per schedule pursuant to agency policy.
  • Ensuring that all areas of the facility are properly buffed approximately 3 to 4 days after the waxing operation has been completed consistent with agency policies.
  • Storing flammable materials in an approved container within an approved area in a safe and secure manner consistent with agency policies and applicable state/federal rules/regulations.
  • Working effectively with colleagues and other agency personnel in order to maximize work area output and services consistent with agency policies.
  • Responding appropriately to personnel grievances/complaints in accordance with agency policies/procedures/applicable laws in a timely manner.
  • Inspecting and replacing worn and damaged ceiling tiles.
  • Replacing light bulbs when needed.
  • Processing applicable incoming and outgoing documents and/or files in a timely manner consistent with supervisory direction and/or agency policies/procedures.
  • Participating in cross-training with other co-workers; assisting those co-workers when the need arises and learning new tasks by working together as a team.
  • Reporting identified or potential maintenance, safety, and/or non-compliance findings, hazards, and incidents to the appropriate personnel and/or department.
  • Timely completing all assignments, special projects, and budgetary requirements (if applicable) as directed, adhering to applicable agency policies.
  • Adhering to leave and attendance policies, including punctual arrival and completing full shifts. Informing the supervisor about illness or untimely incidents, reporting overtime hours worked, and timely submitting timesheet, attendance, and leave requests.
  • Regularly checking assigned mailbox, phone calls, PowerDMS, and email messages, responding promptly and professionally.
  • Making assigned chain of command aware of anything noteworthy.
  • Responding to supervision, guidance, direction, and feedback from executive staff and superiors in a receptive manner and in accordance with agency policies.
  • Conducting themselves in a polite, helpful, courteous, ethical, and professional manner, abiding by the established code of ethics, and demonstrating a courteous and professional image when engaged in any activity with the public.
  • Cultivating positive working relationships with colleagues and other agency units to enhance work area output and services in line with agency policies.
  • Demonstrating an understanding, consideration, and respect of cultural, religious, and gender differences when interacting with the public and coworkers.
  • Actively participating in job-specific training.
  • Operating and performing minor repairs for office equipment to manufacturer's specifications and/or within the specified parameters pursuant to agency policies.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or its equivalent required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office products.
  • Speak and understand the English language.
  • The following items (or authorized equivalents) may be required at various steps in the application process:
    1. Driver's License
    2. Birth Certificate
    3. Social Security Card
    4. Form DD214 for all periods served in the military
    5. GED or High School Diploma and Sealed Transcripts from the highest level of education
    6. FDLE Authority for Release (notarized)
