Registered Nurse – Neuro ICU (NCC Unit)

Facility: University of Tennessee Medical Center
Location: 1924 Alcoa Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37920
Start Date: November 3, 2025 (or ASAP upon credentialing)
Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: Nights – 3x12 Hours (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Schedule: 4 weekend shifts per schedule period (Friday/Saturday nights)

Position Overview

The Neuro ICU (NCC) is a high-acuity critical care unit focused on managing patients with complex neurological conditions. This includes post-op neurosurgical cases, stroke, traumatic brain injury, and more. Nurses will primarily work in NCC but may float to Medical Critical Care units as needed. The facility uses Cerner for documentation, and prior experience with this system is strictly required. The role requires strong neurocritical care skills and the ability to manage a 2:1 or 3:1 nurse-to-patient ratio.

Requirements

• Licensure: Active TN RN License or Compact License – Required (Must be in hand at submission)
• Experience: Minimum 2 years recent ICU experience – Required
• Patient Ratio Experience: Comfortable with 2:1 and 3:1 ratios – Required
• Travel Experience: Not Accepted (First-time travelers not eligible)
• Teaching Hospital Experience: Preferred
• Local Radius Rule: Locals within 25 miles – Not Accepted

Certifications

• BLS (AHA) – Required
• ACLS (AHA) – Required
• Stroke Certification – Required
• NIHSS – Preferred

Charting System

• Cerner – Required (No exceptions)
