Inventory Control Specialist

Under the direct supervision of the Fleet Supervisor, the job duties of the Inventory Control Specialist include but are not limited to, procurement and the following documentation of parts, materials, fuels, lubricants, and consumables for departmental operations. Provide responsive, courteous and efficient service to supervisors, coworkers, municipal partners, County residents and the general public.

Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for receiving, storing, maintaining, and dispensing of parts, materials, and supplies.
  • Utilizes various computer software, and programs for the purpose of inventory documentation
  • Maintain work area in a safe and clean manner.
  • Follows regulations in regard to chemical storage and safety data sheet compliance.
  • Performs inventory checks, daily, weekly, monthly, and annually.
  • Adheres to the County's purchasing policy and standards, as well as departmental procedures.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • Routinely perform maintenance/service work on Light Duty vehicles such as cars, pickups, and vans
  • Serves as back up for various Highway operations as necessary, including during peak seasonal demand, which may include mechanical repairs, equipment maintenance, operation of a plow truck or other heavy equipment.
  • Assist the public in warm and courteous manner, to answer general questions, ascertain the appropriate contact within the department or county, or refer to an outside source in an efficient manner.
  • Participate as a team member to improve efficiency and cooperatively solve problems
  • Adhere to the Department's policy of confidentiality

Qualifications:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience:

  1. Two years experience in inventory/parts ordering, management, and/or accounting/record keeping
  2. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Heavy Equipment maintenance required
  3. Combination of work experience and education may be considered
  4. Associate's degree in business administration, accounting, automotive technician, or related field

  • Written and Verbal Communication Skills and Mathematical and Reading Comprehension - Recognizes or uses correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling; ability to comprehend written communications to follow directions, compute related mathematical concepts; communicates information (for example, facts, ideas, or messages) in a brief, clear, and organized manner.
  • Flexibility - Is open to change and new information; adapts behavior or work methods in response to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles; effectively deals with ambiguity.
  • Attention to Detail - Ensures information is complete and accurate; follows up with others to ensure that agreements and commitments have been fulfilled.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:

  • Valid Wisconsin CDL with following Class and endorsements or must obtain Class B with Air Brakes and Tanker endorsements within six (6) months of date of hire.
